The clean up hosted in Nawailliwili Beach Park, where volunteers were then shuttled to a few different locations. We cleaned at Ahukini Beach, Unulau Bay and the Jetty area nearby.

With the help of 218 Volunteers from 2 different countries and 6 different states, we removed 6,500 pounds of marine debris from Kauai coastlines. Most of what we found were nets, piping crates, fish traps, and other miscellaneous products from the commercial fishing industry. We also found single use plastics like utensils, styrofoam and balloons.

The week leading up to the clean up, the Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii Education Team was deployed around the island. After visiting 13 different schools, and giving 42 individual presentations to all age groups, we successfully reached over 1,100 students.

Each presentation is catered to the classroom needs, and with our knowledgable Educators we can create unique experiences for the students. At Waimea Canyon Middle School, we helped facilitate a STEM workshop where students learned how to construct san sifters and how to organize a beach cleanup.

"They say it takes a village, and a beach clean up is no exception. We would like to take a moment to thank all of the organizations that had a hang in making this cleanup come to fruition.

First, we would like to thank Timbers Kauai for their generous support. Not only did they play a big part in sponsoring the cleanup, but they also hosted our crew for the duration of our stay!

Mahalo to our other partners, Surfrider Kauai and B-Rad Foundation for helping with the planning and facilitation of the event as well as our sponsors -- All Good Brand, Free the Ocean, Hawaiian Airlines, and Parley for the Oceans.

During the event we had Kailua sailing shuttling volunteers, Foil Fever assisting with the set up. Greenery Cafe come with some locally sourced food, Sashamon playing music, and Nikki Engel and Landon Ecker taking epic photos.

With the support of these organizations and individuals, we are able to perpetuate our mission of inspiring local communities to care for their coastlines. We look forward to continuing these partnerships in our future visits to Kauai." - Sustainable Coastlines
